An Investigation of Four Randomization Algorithms for a Two Arm Randomized Trial

Abstract: Four randomization algorithms are investigated in the process of planning for a two arm randomized trial. Criteria for judging the algorithms are randomness of the generated sequences, maintenance of balance in key baseline distributions and overall balance in the numbers assigned to the two treatments. Simulations from data generated by a pilot study are used to conduct these studies.
